Why does my beef stew taste "blah" ?

I just cannot seem to get a good flavor from my beef stew. I usually cook it in a pressure cooker or crock pot. I don't like to use salt if I can avoid it--but I include celery, onions (browned in EVOO), balsamic vinegar, low sodium beef broth, canned tomatoes, carrots, small whole potatoes with skin left on and any other vegetables I have on hand. I also add chopped curly parsley, fresh ground pepper and some salt-substitute herb mix that I like. I finally found a good source of meat so at least now the beef isn't tough, but it still lacked something when I cooked it yesterday! Any suggestions?

Why would the doctor prescribe Sulfamethoxazole W/ Tmp Susphit for my daughter's stomach virus?!?

I took my 4 year old daughter to the doctor on Thursday with a stomach virus (constant diarrhea) and the symptoms got worse after taking the medication. After my mother suggested that perhaps the antibiotic (why would an antibiotic be given for something presumably viral and why the hell would I actually administer it is beyond me) was giving her worse diarrhea I looked into the side effects and taadaa! A common side effect is none other than diarrhea. Upon further research of the drug I saw that it's used for strep and flu and others illnesses of that sort so why would a doctor prescribe this for diarrhea...especially to a 4 year old?!? If it wasn't Saturday I'd ask the doctor myself. Anyone able to defend these actions? Anyone have a good reason why I shouldn't quit using this medication? The first dose I'm skipping is tonight's dosage with no plans on giving her anymore. I believe my daughter has had to suffer explosive and painful diarrhea 3 days more than needed and I'm pissed!

you already figured out the problem, but not why, pull the plugs intil you find the one that is the problem, if its hard to tell, then pull and replace all of them with new ones, and take the old ones to a mechanic for ysis. I believe you have a plug, it is oil fouled (likely) or gas fouled (less likely) but if the vehicle is not driven on the highway much, or you use cheap crappy fuel and do not change the oil much this may be part of the problem (Im only guessing at this point, on why a plug would foul out so quick)

A couple of things first. You don't have to be good at math to enroll in a community college. If you have a deficit, you will be enrolled in remedial math courses first to help you catch up. Second, I strongly recommend that you be tested for learning disabilities. This could be the issue all along, and has nothing to do with your intelligence. If you then are diagnosed, you could have extra time on tests, etc. As far as learning basic facts, I would go to a teacher store and buy a 4th grade math workbook. Look for songs and games on the internet to help learn your facts. Get flashcards, and work with them 30 min. a day. Test yourself with a quiz that you can fill in the blanks. Make it as fun as possible!

wow, you just described me in a nut shell. i had the same symptoms and it turns out i have lupus SLE. i am not trying to scare you, but doctor's mis diagnosed me for a year. you might need to check with an actual lupus specialist. there are no specific tests out there that can detect lupus for sure, that is why it is so hard to pin point. but you need to find out now and not later. lupus is a horrible disease. if you can afford it, go see a lupus specialist and tell them all your symptoms. and make sure it is a doctor familiar with lupus. good luck sweetie :)

School Midterms...failed.. life sucks?

I need help. Life hurts. I try to look at things in perspective and say, "I have a good like. I should be happy." But I have major self esteem issues, trying to lose weight with this thyroid condition that I have and neve even had a cute guy look at me. Last year I had a bunch of guy friends, was happier and did very well in school. My grades were basically A's and one or two B's but this year I'm stressing. With all the flues going around I was absent for more then 11 days which means I have to p all my midterms in order to get my credits. I have advanced cles so it's been very stressful. I was already upset that my grades were so eh (CACBBCB) but now I fell sick. I think I got a D on my AP History. I think got a D in my AICE GENERAL PAPPER and in my science....and the one thing I thought I did really well on I got a D. I'm going to hate getting my report card this semester. On top of that I almost got a zero and a referal...and I never get into trouble. And my teacher gave me a panic attack and I almost fainted in front of her. Oh and my Birthday is comming up. I don't know if I should call myself an atheist or what, but I am borderline right now. I guess you could call me spiritual to a certain extent, but I'm not sure what to believe anymore. Maybe I'm just going to be a skeptic for the rest of my life. I have heard all the excuses in the book from christians to tell me why god exists. In fact I have come up a lot of reasons why a deity would exist when I was more lenient toward the believing side. It just seems very possible when you go either way. Life is so complex and amazing it seems to be pure craftsmanship, but if you are to say god made it then your saying something more improbable and more complex has created it, because that entity just simply has to be more complicated. Sure you can think that we live in a universe of equations and say you cant have something from nothing. That matter can't exist without a cause, but that would be a paradox. God would have had to be much more spontaneous than that matter people can't comprehend to exist without a creator. You could also say that everything is cause and affect which it is and say without god you would go back and back and have an infinite set of cause and effects without a beginning to stabilize it and need an uncaused being to start everything, but you can also say who's to say there is a definite beginning. Time seems to forever go forward why can't it forever go backward, in fact time is a mysterious thing isn't it. It seems much more logical to call the universe uncaused than thrusting god in and saying he is the uncaused being, because god being uncaused seems so unlikely and so impossible it hurts my head to allow that. You would have to say he is uncaused though, because that would be the only way. It all seems so random to me. We all shouldn't be alive, but we are. I guess people shouldn't take life so for granted, because we all just don't see how diffcult it would have been for us to come about. No matter what angle you come from it seems very amazing. I'm not saying I'm atheist. I have seen supernatural things in my life. Spirits, whatever they are. My whole family has seen them. So I do believe in a spiritual side to things without blind faith, but I have no idea what to believe anymore. I just have no idea. It just seems much easier for me to say we started from humble and simple beginnings like simple matter rather than BOOM GOD masterful, intelligent, all knowing, and much more sophisticated than you'll ever know popping up and starting everything up without a definite cause for this god.

I have been really ambitious and driven lately to try and chase my dream of having a music career. I have been singing my whole life, but just recently I started taking it more seriously. Some friends of mine told me I'm too old for that type of career. With the us dollar so low against nearly all currencies why does it continue to do well against the Yen?

I don't understand the strength of the dollar against the yen. How come it does so well against the yen? Is it the fact they have low interest rates in japan? Why are IAMS pet food tainted? What caused them to be tainted?

They are not sure yet, but right now they think that some equipment was tainted in the processing of the wheat gluten (a thickening agent). I know it's scary; I have five cats and they eat Eukanuba, but the dry food (I'm scared anyway). If your cat is not showing symptoms, he is fine. The problem the food is causing is renal (kidney) failure and the symptoms are severe and immediate. If you can find another food not on the list that your cat likes, go with that. But remember, this happens, even with people food (just ask Taco Bell!). In a short period of time, IAMS will be safe again and I'm sure they will be even more diligent. Good Luck!

Pillsbury mini pizzas?

I'm a little worried. I was about to cook a few of these in the oven, and noticed part of one of the pizzas was very icy, like it had been thawed and refroze. So I cooked them and ate most of it all, except avoided the part that I remembered was icy. I remember the day I bought them, I spent about an hour or so eating lunch and they were in the trunk of the car. It wasn't swealtering heat out that day, but drizzly. Not cold, not hot. I guess I forgot to check them before I stuck em in the freezer. They are the 3 cheese kind, no meat on them. I already ate about 8 of them out of that pack over the last few days and seemed fine. Are they still ok to eat? I guess it doesn't really matter now that I already ate so many out of that box of 12, but I can throw the rest out if I have to. Out of all of them, only 1 of them had that ice melt on it, and only partially. Thanks in advance, I'm asking now incase this happens in the future. My babies are now 6 and 3 years old. But I agree with just about everything you said. I also fed and I always say that if you can stick it out those first few weeks, then it becomes easy. My were sore, hurt, bled, with both kids but happily fed for a long time with each one and will always miss it. I was a reader and preparer too and nothing in those books prepare you for real life but I was so thankful that I have a natural mother's instinct and when I wasn't sure, I could call my mom for help. Both of my kids have fallen off of something as a baby and it's usually when I was right there and trying to be extra careful. The only thing I didn't get to experience is my libido coming back... We found a place to sit and tried our best to explain to her about these dogs that they are "working" and can't be distracted.
