The ranking is determined by a combination of TripAdvisor popularity algorithm and visitor's trends such as (changed like), time on site and also (changed by opinion) the number of review post on TripAdvisor's foreign websites made for (I added made for because I am not sure who you are writing this for and if it is preconceived what tripadvisor is... because I didn't know what it is, if people already know I would change it back) sightseeins in Japan.
